Steel wheel bolts are not only shorter (58 mm long with 32 mm shank), they also feature a ridge to keep the center cap in place.

The bolt for alloy wheels is longer (69 mm, 75 mm and 85 mm long with 45 mm shank). The one pictured here (A2204010270) has an especially long head for the newer (1998 and later) alloy wheels.

For early style alloy wheels you will need a shorter head - otherwise the bolts will stick out a bit far.

460 and 463 bolts are identical except that the 460 bolts have a larger head (19 mm)

(check for suitable length depending on your wheel type!)

Do NOT use steel wheel bolts for MB alloy wheels!

shown here are the two different bolts for the 463 with 17 mm heads - 69 mm long and 85 mm long
shank length is equally 45 mm

The shorter bolt (69 mm) stays inside the hole, whereas the longer version (85 mm) is about flush with the wheel

The bolts with long head (85 mm) stick out quite a bit on older G alloy wheels

Wheel bolts for the Geländewagen steel wheels feature a distinct edge above the ball seat (it holds the plastic wheel caps in place)
