Shifting gears with engine off

Sometimes you will have to change gears with the engine off.

Here is the safe procedure:
•  Keep at least one hand on the steering wheel
• pump your main brake 3 times
• hold your main brake down on the 3rd stroke and hold down hard
• step on the clutch slowly
• should your vehicle show signs of moving - step harder on your brake
• if your vehicle does not indicate movement push clutch down all the way
• change gears
• let out your clutch
• now - let off your main brake very slowly *
• if the car shows sign of movement increase brake pressure and repeat the shift process
• then let off brake very slowly
• once the vehicle is secure start in gear

The following video shows the process step by step

Why you should release your brake very slowly: You may have been too excited and the gear may not have engaged properly - if you would let out your brake rapidly the vehicle would start moving before you even know what's happening - you will not be able to regain control - you could get killed!
Letting off the brake slowly guarantees that you will notice possible car movement in time to increase brake pressure again, use you clutch again to engage the gear properly.
